Posters/Visual tools

How to interpret these posters

The Oh yesss visuals were developed to speak openly to students and dispel some of the common excuses young adults make around wearing condoms or getting tested.

Each visual features a “good habit”, positive behaviour related to sexual health. Behind these acts worth celebrating lies the very real issues at hand—trivializing risks, feelings of invincibility, or feeling uncomfortable discussing them.

They encourage action, however imperfect, and shine a spotlight on the courage needed to do the right thing in a world filled with pressure and assumptions.

Issue addressed: Low perception of risk

Many people still associate cleanliness (or a lack of) with STBBIs. It’s why people say “I’m clean” when they don’t have an STBBI.

This poster reminds us that, contrary to popular belief, we can’t “see” an STBBI. That’s why it’s always a good idea to use a condom, regardless of how clean you or your partner may be.

Celebrating this instinct, even in a situation considered “risk-free” normalizes wearing protection.

Issue addressed: Low perceived need

What if STBBI screening was a gift you gave yourself—from you to you—as an act of caring?

This poster suggests making it a part of your routine, much like visiting the dentist.

The idea is to make STBBI screening a healthy and positive habit, instead of an unusual or anxiety-ridden task. This reminds us that getting tested at least once a year is a great habit anyone can get into!

Issue addressed: Feelings of invincibility and instant gratification

Many young adults don’t wear condoms because it minimizes sensation during intercourse.

This poster flips the idea on its head by promoting the pleasure of wearing protection.

It’s a reminder that there is a wide variety of condoms available—they come in all shapes, sizes, flavours, lubricated or not. Try on a few to see what works!

Issue targeted: Feelings of invincibility and instant gratification

This poster compares wearing protection to getting someone a drink—generous AND fun!

The message here is that everyone has a role to play when it comes to their own sexual health and that of those close to them. By carrying condoms and offering them to a friend (or friends) in need who maybe don’t have access, you’re showing support in a meaningful way.

What’s more, according to a recent study (PIXEL), in the majority of cases (76.7%), it was the person with a penis who brought a condom to their last sexual encounter (Lambert et al., 2017). We like the idea of bucking the trend‚ starting with this poster.

Issue addressed: Downplaying the risk

Many believe that no symptoms means no problem—especially in exclusive relationships. False! The majority of STBBIs don’t show symptoms and tests don’t always properly detect them. Even if you wear a condom every time you have sex, some STBBIs can spread via infected areas a condom doesn’t cover. We can even have an STBBI without our knowledge—sometimes for years—and unknowingly pass it along to someone else.

Even if a majority of STBBIs are treatable, they can still cause complications if left untreated.

This poster shows a couple in what appears to be an exclusive relationship and reminds the viewer that getting tested shouldn’t be in response to something, but rather a preventative step and a sign of respect for your sexual partner, regardless of the type of relationship you have.

Issue addressed: High social cost of safe behaviour

Buying condoms can be an awkward experience for people of any age—but especially for young adults. The discomfort stems from a fear of being judged by the cashier or other clients. These people might judge someone for being “too young” to have an active sex life. It can also be attributed to the taboos that still surround sexuality, which can make buying these kinds of items difficult. Sometimes, it’s because it’s their first time and they haven’t gotten used to it yet!

This poster acknowledges that it can be uncomfortable, but is encouraging and celebrates the responsibility that comes with this step!

Printable posters

The posters for printing are the backbone of our initiative. Placed in high-visibility locations, they become an essential part of students’ lives.

All Oh yesss posters are designed to celebrate the good sexual health habits while raising real issues young adults face daily. They’re intended to be eye-catching and non-judgemental. Each one features a QR code that drives to the website for more relevant information. There, they’ll find information related to the good habit detailed on the poster.

Once online, they can browse the other pages to:

  1. Discover all the project's good habits and the practical tips and tricks associated with them
  2. Find a testing clinic near them via the Club Sexu directory
  3. Take the “Do I need to get tested?” quiz
  4. Consult our FAQs about STBBIs
  5. Play “End of Term and Temptations,” a fun and interactive experience that addresses realistic situations related to protection and testing

Your mission: print as many posters as possible and display them in strategic locations throughout your institution.

Printing instructions

We created six (6) posters to help Oh yesss stand out on your campus.
They are available in 2 formats:

  1. Small: 12 x 18 inches
  2. Large: 24 x 36 inches

Double-check the “bleed”

Our files include a bleed, which is a margin that will be trimmed after printing. This means that your poster must be printed on a slightly larger format and then trimmed to the correct size:

  1. For the 12 x 18 format, print at least 12.25 x 18.25 in.
  2. For the 24 x 36 format, print at least 24.25 x 36.25 in.

In a nutshell

  1. Download your preferred format
  2. Print on paper that’s slightly larger than the poster.
  3. Cut the margin (bleed) after printing
  4. Display your posters in strategic locations around campus!

💡 Pro tip: For a clean finish and true-to-life colours, we recommend using a professional printing service, especially for the large-format posters.

Where to display the posters

A good message? That’s great! A good message in the right place? Oh yesss!

Poster placement is key in creating impact. To maximize reach, we recommend a strategic approach: use a mix of intimate, high-traffic educational spaces to capture students’ attention and curiosity.

Intimate locations

Some of our messaging might feel more personal. To avoid discomfort or embarrassment, we suggest placing these posters in quiet areas where students can read them without worrying about judgment.

  1. Bathrooms
  2. Locker rooms
  3. Calm spaces in residences
  4. Libraries
  5. Rest areas

We especially recommend using the following posters in these locations:

  • “Brought condoms even though I’m squeaky-clean” – Perfect for restrooms, since it plays on the soap reference while also addressing the personal topic of condom use.
  • “I finally found my type of condom and it feels grrrrreat” – A more personal, intimate message.
  • “Getting tested is my favourite birthday tradition” – A positive affirmation about self-care, best discovered in a private setting.

High-traffic locations

To promote the initiative and raise awareness, high-traffic areas are your greatest allies. These locations help spread the word and spark spontaneous dialogue.

  1. Cafeterias
  2. Hallways
  3. Student cafés
  4. Public bulletin boards
  5. Waiting areas

Dedicated sexual health spaces

Some campuses already have dedicated sexual health spaces. These are ideal spots for displaying any of our posters—even the more sensitive ones—because these areas are considered safe, judgment-free zones.

  1. Student hubs
  2. Sexology facilities
  3. Waiting rooms
  4. Health centres
  5. Student service centres

Customizable posters

Hosting a sexual health event on campus? Do it with Oh yesss! We’ve designed customizable posters that you can easily update with your own details.

  1. Activity name
  2. Date and time
  3. Location
  4. Other details

Web banners

Campus walls are more than bulletin boards in common areas. These days, campaigns can exist in digital spaces—after all, online is where students go to get informed. For this reason, we've adapted our campaign visuals to fit into your academic institution's digital properties too.

The web banners are designed to be visually appealing and functional: just one click, drives students to the Oh yesss website where they'll find:

  1. all our "good habits"
  2. our directory of STBBI screening clinics
  3. the “Do I need to get screened?” quiz
  4. a comprehensive FAQ on STIs
  5. our interactive game “End-of-Semester Pleasures”

Where to display them

We created two types of web banners:

  1. Banners that repurpose the images from the “good habits” posters
  2. Generic web banners in the project branding

Use these banners on:

  • your institution’s website or student portals
  • your institution’s Intranet
  • Newsletters

💡 Pro tip: Consider asking the communications team to make the banners clickable so that they link to the website: Ohyesss.ca!

Digital posters

Some academic institutions have a network of screens or TVs in high-traffic areas such as hallways, near entrances, and cafeterias. We’ve created a version of Oh yesss posters that have been optimized to run on these screen.

Where to display them

Display the posters on all screens on campus:

  1. Televisions in common areas
  2. Welcome area
  3. Near cafeterias, student cafés, or in student spaces

💡These files were properly sized to reduce any technical issues.

Stickers

A simple, fun, and colourful tool to get the word out about Oh yesss! The stickers display either the website URL or a QR code that drives to it. These are perfect for sticking on a laptop, a reusable water bottle, a notebook, or any other surface to spark curiosity and start conversations about sexual health.

How to share them

During activities

Hosting an event or on-campus activity? Make stickers a part of the experience! Offer them as a reward after participating, or hand them out to pique curiosity.

Direct interaction

Distribute stickers in strategic spots like the cafeteria, student lounges, or student cafés to get people talking. Use these placements as an opportunity to promote key messaging:

  1. Get tested at least once a year
  2. Use protection

In health or wellness spaces

Place the stickers in campus health centres, student service offices, waiting rooms next to a poster.

As a “surprise”

Slide these stickers in unexpected—yet relevant!—spots like inside lockers, on cafeteria trays, or between the pages of books about sexual health and sexuality in the library. Create intrigue that sparks curiosity and encourages people to visit our website
