Good move #7

I got tested after a great oral sex session

No! Oral sex is not totally risk-free

It isn’t always our first instinct to put on a condom or oral sex dam during oral sex.

STBBIs can spread even without anal or vaginal penetration. So, if you’ve had some pleasure without protection, getting tested afterwards is a good idea. We’re not saying this to scare you, we just want to help protect your peace of mind.

Tip #1

Protect yourself during oral pleasure

Condoms aren’t exclusively for penetration! They can also be used for oral sex. Some are even designed specifically for oral sex and are flavoured to make the experience more, well, delicious.

If you have oral sex with someone who doesn’t have a penis, you can also get an oral sex dam, or DIY one by cutting a condom lengthwise to make a square (or a rectangle, for all you geometry enthusiasts out there). Just note that it might have a slightly smaller surface area than a typical oral sex dam.

Then, place it over the vulva or anus before stimulating them with your mouth or tongue. Attention: Avoid flipping the oral sex dam once it’s been used!

Tip #2

Accept that there’s a slight risk… then go get tested!

Didn’t wear protection during oral sex?

You’re not alone! Even though it’s commonly overlooked, it’s important to remember that some STBBIs, like chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, and syphilis, can be spread through unprotected oral sex. These STBBIs can then be transmitted to your partner’s mouth or genitals.

The right thing to do is get tested. Better safe than sorry!
