People sometimes think that testing is long, complicated, and painful, but the truth is that it’s quick, easy… and it doesn’t even hurt!
A test can include a small urine sample in a cup, a vaginal or anal swab, and sometimes, a blood test.
What tests you undergo will be determined and performed by a healthcare professional who is there to take care of you and ensure everything goes smoothly. For your comfort, some clinics even allow you to take your own samples—expect blood samples.
Tip #1
It’s totally normal to feel anxious, but if you’re imagining worst-case scenarios, remember that professionals are trained to put you at ease and that you have the right to ask questions, take as much time as you need, and share your concerns with them. You can even take yourself out for a little treat as a reward after your test!
Tip #2
Healthcare professionals are there to listen, not judge.
It’s normal to want to know what to expect before getting tested. Ask your doctor, or call the clinic or Info-Santé help line ahead of your appointment. A staff member will be there to guide and support you.
