By getting tested, the person you're dating is showing that they take their sexual health seriously. It's a concrete way of caring for themselves… and you, too.
Is there anything more attractive than someone who tells us they care about our health? Not that we can think of!
Talking openly about testing sends the message that we can have frank discussions about sexuality, our boundaries, and protection.
Tip #1
Getting tested is good. Getting tested more recently? Even better.
If the person you like has had sex since their last test, it’s worth bringing up because it means their results are no longer up to date. The keywords here are transparency and communication!
Tip #2
If your partner has never been tested, or their test results are no longer relevant, there's no need to roll your eyes. It just means they've been honest with you.
From there, you can decide together whether to continue protecting yourselves (hello, condoms!) or wait for test results. Zero pressure!
Tip #3
Why not go together? Getting tested doesn’t mean you don’t trust your partner. Quite the contrary! It’s a sign of maturity, love, and respect—for one’s self, and for one’s partner.
So, we suggest making a date of it. Go together, and then grab a coffee after, go for ice cream, or catch a movie as a pair.
Tip #4
If your status needs to be updated, make an appointment ASAP. Until then, continue to use protection until your results confirm you can safely stop, if that’s what you want to do.
STBBIs rarely show symptoms, which means you could have one and pass it on without knowing. Getting tested is really the only way to know whether or not you have an STBBI.
